Took a bit of time off from the bench to get some fishing and yard chores in. Next up a series of live bait tuna rods and a series of jig rods for Wayne. The live bait rods are Rainshadow SWS 597′s with some gold thread. Since I don’t like the company that makes this thread and Wayne insisted, we’ll just call it Wayne’s Gold Metallic, trimmed in blue. Jig rods are Seeker Hercules inshore light. Pictures to follow.
Phenix 700M is done and ready for the OTC
Enough said about that, lets let the pictures do the talking
The Garibaldi event is in the books, thousands of pounds of tuna donated, and thousands of dollars raised. I have to give a big hand to the teams that braved the less than favorable conditions on Saturday.
I have to admit the change in format with the auction on Sunday had me concerned that the food bank wouldn’t reap the best benefit from my contribution. When I arrived for the awards ceremony and saw the bid sheets, I was pleasantly surprised to find my donated rod batting clean up at the end of the auction. When the gavel on $900 I was very happy for the food bank and already thinking about what to do next year.
OTC Auction Rod
Pretty much done with the decorative wrap done in red abalone veneer – pics to follow. Material is interesting to work with very thin, and not too much heat from heat gun. My low temp is broken and high is a bit much, learn as you go – off to grind guide feet, wrap and get some finish started.
Time to get the party started!!!
It has taken a bit to get the site to where it is today – thanks for all the hard work Deb.
Today, I started the rod I’m going to donate to the Oregon Tuna Classic. This years rod is a jig rod based of the Phenix Black Diamond PSW700m, great jigging rod for PNW Albacore tuna and inshore bottom fish. With the right reel, deep water Ling Cod would also be a good target. The rod features a carbon fiber rear grip, Alps Triangle aluminum reel seat all in black, 8′ tapered forgrip covered in red and black flocked X wrap, and Alps XN casting guides. Del Stephens will be capping the rod off with a nice Diawa high speed reel. Decorations on the rod will include the cool red Abalone veneer and guides wrapped in black and metallic red. Look for updates and pictures to follow.
Hang on kids, it’s coming
We’re busy chasing fish…haven’t gotten to the site yet. It’s getting closer though, but the site is still under construction!
